Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor, journalist and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up with her family in New York City, Mitchell graduated with a BA degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell started her job as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. A few years later, she was an general reporter at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988, she became the chief journalist for Congress. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the show. She was on the panel during the debates for president in 1988, between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on for the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a wide range of notable stories, including the Iran-contra scandal and tax reform. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan on numerous trips to world summits and reported often.
